Tiraspol takes new anti-crisis measures, salaries and public services cut

The Transnistrian administration adopted a law on measures to minimize the impact of the energy crisis, according to the regional press. The decree, signed by the Transnistrian leader Vadim Krasnoselsky, enters into force on January 1, 2025, IPN reports.

Under the document, from January 1 it is banned imposing bill-related penalties and disconnecting people from public utilities in the Transnistrian region for debts. The debt could be paid in equal installments by the end of next year.

The validity of permits was extended for the period of the state of emergency, for 30 days after its end.

Inactive businesses will benefit from tax deferrals.

The employer has the right to set reduced working days, and the working week can be shortened. At the same time, the workers' salary should not be lower than the minimum wage or the standard of living, reads the document adopted in Tiraspol.

Companies and enterprises can ignore some of the provisions of the so-called labor code of the Transnistrian region and unilaterally decide to institute the measure until the state of emergency is lifted. Specifically, "the workers' consent, if the work schedule is modified, will not be requested. The remuneration for them will be set at minimum 1,809 Transnistrian rubles or will not be lower than the minimum subsistence level, depending on the area of activity."

The subsidies that the separatists grant to young families for the purchase of housing will not be offered temporarily. At the same time, public services could be paralyzed. The introduced regulations provide that documents can be issued with deviations from the time limit set by the so-called legislation of the Transnistrian region, except for cases when identity and civil status documents are issued.

The Transnistrians could have limited access to information. The activity of economic agents that transmit radio waves could be limited, except for those controlled by the authorities in Tiraspol, which broadcast informative programs.

From January 1, 2025, the Russian supplier Gazprom will no longer deliver gas to the Transnistrian region. Prime Minister Dorin Recean described the decision as "political weapon".
