Tiraspol requests Russia’s State Duma to recognize documents issued in Transnistria

Tiraspol made an approach to the State Duma of the Russian Federation to recognize the documents issued on the left bank of the Nistru. In a resolution adopted by the Transnistrian deputies, these state their support for Russia’s policy to protect expatriates and to consolidate the Russian world, IPN reports.

The document underlines the necessity of informing the Russian authorities about the situation in Transnistria following the announced intentions to institute a joint Moldovan-Ukrainian customs post in Cuciurgan. The Transnistrian deputies consider the Kremlin should know about the exclusion of the Cuciurgan Power Plant, whose assets are owned by a Russian company, from Moldova’s energy market, based on political criteria according to them.

The Transnistrian side said these actions are aimed at choking Transnistria and at reducing the influence of Russia and the Russian capital in the region.

The deputies also said that the pressure exerted on the Transnistrian region actually represents an undeclared war and therefore the region needs the “paternal care” of Russia.
