Tiraspol refuses to take part in 5+2 talks

Tiraspol has informed by a letter the Reintegration Office that it will not take part in the round of Transnistrian conflict settlement talks in the 5+2 format set to take place in Vienna this week. The Reintegration Office’s head George Balan has told IPN that Tiraspol asked postponing the round until a later date.

The request was reiterated in a meeting of the chief negotiators of Chisinau and Tiraspol Eugen Carpov and Nina Shtanski, held in Bender on April 7. One of the reasons invoked by the Transnistrian side is that Moldova’s Parliament didn’t vote to annul the excise duties imposed on the goods imported by Transnistrian economic entities.

George Balan also said that a consensus hasn’t been yet reached over farmers’ access to the farmland located beyond the Tiraspol-Camenca road. It was decided that experts of the working groups on economy will meet in Chisinau on April 11 to continue the discussions. Afterward, on April 14, Eugen Carpov and Nina Shtanski will have a new meeting, this time in Chisinau.
