The young people in the Transnistrian region who will be called up for military service will do only 12 months of service, not 18 as until now. The local authorities decided to reduce the term of the military service in the region, IPN reports.
According to the Transnistrian press, the relevant decision takes effect on May 28. Thus, the first young men who will do only 12 months of military service will be those who will be drafted within the first call-up campaign this year, starting with May 29.
Another amendment that takes effect on May 28 provides for the institution of the alternative service to the military one for young people whose moral and religious principles run counter to military training. The alternative service will be done for 24 months, or 18 months in the case of graduates with higher education. These young people will be drafted into the army, but will hold a civil post.
