The Transnistrian leader Yevgheny Shevchuk promised that the pensions in the region will be paid in the full amount starting with November 1. Owing to the economic crisis faced by Transnistria, the pensions have been paid in the amount of 70-80% since March, IPN reports.
The press in Tiraspol reported that the salaries of budget-funded employees will be paid in the amount of 90%, as opposed to only 70% now. Yevgheny Shevchuk said the Transnistrian administration decided to release more money for budget-funded employee for the reason that the costs incurred by the people during the cold season are higher.
The Transnistrian region started to face economic problems after the national currencies in Ukraine and Russia depreciated significantly. Then, Transnistria’s exports to the traditional markets in Ukraine and Russia declined considerably. On January 1, 2016, the economic entities of Transnistria will stop benefitting from the preferential trade regime with the EU.
