Tiraspol: New contract for supply of electricity with Chisinau saved region’s economy

The one-year contract for the supply of electric power from the Transnistria region, which was signed with the authorities of Moldova, practically saved the region’s economy from a catastrophe, said the so-called minister of economy of Transnistria Dmitry Boltrushko, IPN reports.

“The export of electricity to Moldova represented 37% of the total exports in 2015. If we hadn’t signed the contract for 2016, this would have been a catastrophe for the Transition economy, which, together with the impossibility of keeping the free access to the EU, would have meant the collapse of the economy,” stated Boltrushko, quoted by the Transnistrian press.

At the start of this year, Ukraine announced that it is ready to resume the export of electric power stopped in 2014 to a number of states. “Leaving the Moldovan energy market would mean losing 50-70% of the budget incomes. So as not to allow something like this, the Transnistrian suppliers had to propose a better offer than that of Ukraine. Thus, compared with last year, the price is by almost 30% lower,” said Dmitry Boltrushko.

The so-called minister of economy noted that the new contract will enable to maintain the economic situation in the Transnistrian region at a minimum level.
