Tiraspol intends to introduce additional peacekeeping contingent
Tiraspol has plans to introduce unilaterally an additional contingent of Transnistrian peacekeepers. The issue was discussed in the last meeting of the Joint Control Commission (JCC), Info-Prim Neo reports, quoting a communiqué from the Moldovan delegation to the Commission.
“The aggressive statements of the co-chairman of the Transnistrian delegation to the JCC Oleg Beleacov, as regards the necessity of increasing the Transnistrian military component in Bender town, which is with increased security regime, without taking into consideration the Commission’s decisions, are confirmed,” it is said in the communiqué.
The Moldovan delegation considers that the introduction of an additional contingent of peacekeepers can lead not only to the escalation of tension in the region, but also to the undermining of the fundamentals of the peacekeeping operations.
According to the communiqué, in the meeting the Moldovan delegation tried to discuss the circumstances of the arrest of Moldovan peacekeepers at the unauthorized Transnistrian checkpoint set up near Slobozia and raised the issue of the detention by the Transnistrian militia of the Ministry of the Interior employee Pavel Cimili, who is from Parcani. But the Transnistrian delegation blocked again this issue.
