The so-called legislature of the Transnistrian region voted to reduce the voter turnout required in the elections of the Transnistrian leader from 50% to 25%, IPN reports.

According to Transnistrian press reports, incumbent leader Yevgheny Shevchuk suggested that the turnout should be reduced to 40%, but the deputies of the local supreme soviet rejected this amendment.

Civil society in Transnistria is against reducing the voter turnout in the so-called presidential elections. The first deputies of the supreme soviet recommended even eliminating this turnout, by the example of the Russian Federation.

The so-called presidential elections in Transnistria were set for December 11.
