Tiraspol did its best for the current Transnistrian leader Vadim Krasnoselski to gain one more term in office at the Decmeber 12 ‘presdiential elecon’. The local administration that is controlled by the Sheriff holding ignores democracy, said civic activists from the Transnistrian region.
In a news conference at IPN, civic activist Nadejda Bondarenco said that political prisoner Oleg Horjan intended to run in the upcoming election, but he was unfairly accused and was imprisoned in a jail in the Transnistrian region. The Supreme Court of Justice of the Republic of Moldova ruled that Horjan was convicted by unconstitutional courts. Therefore, from legal viewpoint, he is no longer a convict.
“Two candidates weren’t registered because they didn’t correctly collect signatures. Another candidate withdrew his candidacy. Only two persons remained – the incumbent leader and a person who is not at all known, Sergey Pînzari. It’s clear that in such circumstances, given that the participation rate was excluded and the option “against all” was eliminated, the people do not have a choice,” explained Nadejda Bondarenco, suggesting that the victory of Krasnoselski was secured ahead of the election.
Civic activist Gennady Ciorba said the regime removed the political opponents, guaranteeing the victory of the current Transnistrian leader. “Making electoral amendments, the current administration practically deprived the people of the right to choose, making the election illegal. The application of the legislation of the Republic of Moldova is out of the question. We demand to interrupt any official dialogues at international level with those who abusively seized power after the results of the December 12 illegal election are announced,” he stated.
Gennady Ciorba also said that two political prisoners, Oleg Horjan and Sergey Mirovici, who are held in jail on the left side of the Nistru, continue the hunger strike on which they went 25 days ago. They asked for meetings with the Ambassadors of Russia and the U.S. and with representatives of the EU, the OSCE and the mass media.
Alina Palii, lawyer for Oleg Horjan, called on the constitutional authorities to urgently become involved and handle the cases of Horjan and Mirovici as the state of health of the two worsened considerably, but not much is known about their condition and what assistance they need.
