The Supreme Soviet of the self-proclaimed Transnistrian republic condemns the Moldovan Parliament’s statement that calls on Russia to withdraw its military forces from the left side of the Nistru, naming it a strategy of Chisinau for destabilizing the situation and escalating the conflict, making this become hot, IPN reports, quoting the Transnistrian press.
The members of the Supreme Soviet said the decision forms part of the destructive actions taken by Chisinau such as the expulsion of Russian diplomats who took part in the meetings of the Joint Control Commission. They consider the Moldovan Parliament’s statement is a maneuver aimed at distracting attention from Moldova’s failure in obtaining positive solutions in the Moldovan-Transnistrian dialogue on economic and humanitarian issues.
The Transnistrian deputies expressed their solidarity with the position of the State Duma of Russia, which condemned the request to transform the current peacekeeping operation and any other action aimed at hampering the activity of the Joint Control Commission.
Transnistrian leader Vadim Krasnoselski told Ukrainian journalists that until the Transnistrian conflict is not resolved, the Russian peacekeeping mission should be kept. “Of the 200 agreements signed with the Republic of Moldova, none was implemented by the Moldovan side. Besides, Moldova does not accept compromises and this does not inspire optimism. How can we allow the peacekeepers to go in such a situation? Until the conflict is not settled once and for all, the peacekeeping mission should work on the sides of the Nistru to guarantee peace,” he stated.
He also said that during the 25 years of work of the peacekeeping mission in the region, no peaceful citizen was killed. The mission includes representatives of the sides involved in the conflict, which is a unique format.
