Tiraspol absentee students to be penalized

The students of the Tiraspol State University “Taras Shevchenko” who will bunk off will pay for absences without leave. This is said in the regulations concerning the additional services for students studying on a contract basis and whose studies are financed by the government, which have been recently adopted by the university's Scientific Council, Info-Prim Neo's correspondent in Tiraspol reports. Under the new rules, the students can miss the lectures only if they have well-founded reasons and will have to present confirmatory documents to the dean's office. The absences without leave will cost 12 rubles per a pair of lectures or 17,3 Moldovan lei. The students will also pay for taking one and the same exam for several times. The first two attempts to take the exam are free of charge. The penalty will depend on the scientific degree of the lecturer – up to 40 rubles (58 lei) per an hour of a new exam. The penalties will be paid into the university's bookkeeping office. The university's administration says that it learned from Russia's and Ukraine's experience in fighting with students who skive off. The Transnistrian ruble is the official currency in the breakaway republic. The Moldovan leu is not accepted.
