President Nicolae Timofti said the dangerous developments in Ukraine confirm the necessity of a professionally well-trained army, which will be ready to cope with foreign dangers. “This situation makes us formulate new requirements as regards the professional training of the components of the Armed Forces,” the head of state said in the ceremony held to celebrate the 23rd anniversary of the creation of the National Army, IPN reports.
In his speech, the head of state pleaded for the continuation of the professional training of the army so as to transform it into a modern state institution with European aspirations.
“As the supreme commander of the Armed Forces, I will continue to support the efforts to transform the National Army into an institution able to defend the state. The National Army must continue the reforms so as to make a significant qualitative leap to professionalism. We will have to continue to invest in professional training, armament and the social protection of servicemen,” stated Nicolae Timofti.
He welcomed the changes that took place in the National Army in the recent past and approved of the performance of the Moldovan soldiers involved in different international missions and operations.
