President Nicolae Timofti on December 8 signed a decree to appoint Eduard Harunjen as prosecutor general for a seven-year term. The appointment of Harunjen, who was suggested by the Superior Council of Prospectors, comes only one day after the results of the candidate selection contest were made public, IPN reports.
According to the presidential press service, after the signing of the decree Eduard Harunjen took an oath before the President of Moldova and the members of the Superior Council of Prospectors.
Eduard Harunjen was chosen out of six candidates who applied for the post of prosecutor general. The final stage of the contest was held on December 7 and the results were announced the same day. Under the legislation, the Head of State has 15 days to examine the candidate fielded by the Superior Council of Prospectors and to reject or name this as prosecutor.
