For the first time in Moldova, three ear implant surgeries using the modern technologies BoneBridge and Vibrant Soundbrigde were performed at the “Timofei Moșneaga” National Hospital.
The patients were a 3-year-old child who suffered from congenital hearing loss, a 48-year-old woman and a 62-year-old man.
All surgeries went without complications. They were performed by Professor Milan Profant from Bratislava, with assistance from a team of National Hospital doctors and residents.
“Providing anesthesia in these cases was a challenge for our specialists, especially in the case of the child, as the pediatric patient had a congenital malformation of the ENT system and at the same time a cardiac malformation. An individualized anesthetic tactic was chosen and the operation went well. The three interventions were livestreamed to the study hall and were commented by Prof. Milan, so that other colleagues could follow along”, the Hospital said in a press release.
There is also an external part to the ear implants that is to be installed to the operated patients in about one month after surgery.
National Hospital specialists regularly attend international training courses and workshops to be able to implement the most modern treatment methods. The latest experience will enable them to perform modern cochlear implant surgeries by themselves, with several already scheduled until the end of 2022.
