Three conscript soldiers were sentenced to five years’ imprisonment, but put on probation for a four-year period, for using violence against other soldiers, IPN has learned from the Prosecutor General’s Office.
The soldiers are from Military Unit No. 1001 of the Carabineer Troops Department and stood trial for violating the statutory rules concerning the relations between servicemen.
According to the prosecutors, the culprits regularly ill-treated 13 fellows drafted later than they in order to show their superiority and impose their own rules on conscript soldiers. As a result of these violent acts, 13 soldiers sustained different injuries.
In the first nine months of this year, the military prosecutors recorded 147 offenses in the National Army and the Carabineer Troops. Of them, 79 concern the violation of the statutory rules, while 28 – desertions. In the period, there were started 328 criminal cases, by 64 more than in 2012. National Army officials were issued with 28 prescriptions for removing the causes and conditions that led to the commission of offenses.
