Three policemen from Chisinau suspected of torture

Three policemen of the Police Office from Chisinau’s Buicani district are suspected of torture. Recently, the Municipal Prosecution Office sent for examination to the Court of Buiucani the penal files of the suspected policemen, on the ground of the 309th article – torture. The prosecutors found out within the frameworks of the penal investigation that on March 24, 2006 a citizen went to the Police Station nr.9 from Durlesti town to submit a petition. According to it, a person has illegally connected to the claimant’s electric power network, causing in this way material damages. The policemen brought that person to the police station, where, they undressed and battered the offender with a cudgel causing him numerous injuries. The prosecutors ascertained that the policemen are guilty. If the court will deem them guilty of committing the aforementioned actions they risk to be convicted for 5 up to 10 years and will not be able to hold certain positions and to have certain activities during 2 to 5 years. According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs statistics, in the first half of 2006, 1190 policemen were sanctioned, and penal proceedings were instituted against 102 of them.
