Two men aged 26 and 30 and a 27-year-old woman from Chisinau are suspected of putting counterfeit money into circulation and risk imprisonment, IPN reports.
According to the information provided by the police, an employee of a restaurant located in suburban Chisinau informed the police that he had been cheated by a group of people with an alleged counterfeit banknote. The suspects allegedly asked him to change a 200 euro banknote and then left.
It was later established that the banknote was fake. Relevant evidence was found during searches carried out at suspects' homes. A criminal case was initiated for the manufacture and distribution of counterfeit money.
Under the legislation, the criminals face 5 to 10 years behind bars. Any person is presumed innocent until an irrevocable court judgment is pronounced.
