Three perish in two fires

A house caught fire in Festelita village of Stefan Voda district on January 4. When they managed to localize the fire, the firemen found the carbonized bodies of two persons. One more person was killed in a fire in Merenii Vechi, Ungheni.

The first examinations showed the fire in Festelița was the result of the incorrect use of the stove. Those who died were the owners of the house – a man aged 62 and his wife of 55.

Press officer of the Civil Protection and Emergencies Service Liliana Puscasu has told IPN that the fire started at about 4:30pm and was noticed by neighbors. When the firefighters arrived at the scene, the ceiling had caved in and the house had been almost fully destroyed. “The two bodies were carbonized, which means that the fire spread very quickly,” she stated.

The firemen presume that the fire was caused by embers that fell from the stove that burned throughout night.

The other fire, in Ungheni, claimed the life of a 69-year-old woman. Most probably, this died from carbon monoxide poisoning as only the bed linen burned in the room where she was found. It is also alleged that the stove overheated after it was left unsupervised.

The Ministry of the Interior’s Civil Protection and Emergencies Service warns the people to strictly respect the anti-fire rules when using heating sources. The fire in the stove should be put out before going to sleep and no clothes or inflammable substances should be left near it.

The 27 fires that happened in Moldova so far this year resulted in four deaths.
