Two shift supervisors and a ticket controller at the North Bus Station in Chisinau were apprehended in a case of corruption, following searches at their offices, homes and in their cars.
The Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office said that all the way back since 2016 the suspects have been scheming with other Bus Station employees, including dispatchers and cashiers, to extort money from carriers, using their official positions. The carriers had to pay on average 45,000 lei every month to avoid troubles.
The suspects now face fines ranging from 117,500 lei ($6,600) to 217,500 lei ($12,218) or prison times from 2 to 7 years, in both cases with a ban from certain jobs for up to 7 years.
