Three more passenger trains to run through Transnistria
If an agreement is reached, three more trains will travel via the Transnistrian region – Chisinau-Moscow, Chisinau-Saint Petersburg, and Chisinau-Rostov – besides the Chisinau-Odessa train, the head of the Passenger Service Division of Moldova’s Railways Nicolae Buza stated for Info-Prim Neo.
The resumption of rail traffic through Transnistria will allow reducing the road to destination by 100-150 kilometers. Thus, the costs will be also lower.
Until 2006, when the rail transport was stopped, the Transnistrian region was crossed by the Chisinau-Moscow, Chisinau-Saint Petersburg, and Chisinau-Adler trains. The Chisinau-Odessa train route was restored on October 1, 2010.
The agreement to resume rail services through Transistria was signed by Prime Minister Vlad Filat and Transnistrian leader Yevgeny Shevchuk in Tiraspol on March 30. The procedure is to be finalized in 30 days.
