Three more flu deaths recorded

Last week, Moldova recorded 190 seasonal flu cases, with Chisinau accounting for the lion’s share, or 141 cases. The National Public Health Agency ANSP said three of these cases were lethal, and in one case the patient also had Covid.

One death caused by influenza was recorded in the Transnistrian region: a 44-year-old woman confirmed with the A(H1N1) influenza virus. Another victim was a 54-year-old man from Râscani district. The third person killed by the flu was a 52-year-old man from Chisinau. In addition to influenza virus A(H1N1), he was also confirmed with SARS CoV-2.

According to the ANSP, during January 9-15, morbidity from acute upper respiratory tract infections (IACRS) was of average intensity, with a decrease of 5.1% compared to the previous week. A total of 11,934 cases were registered, of which almost 37% in Chisinau.

The first flu-related death this season was reported earlier in January. The victim was a 22-year-old man who hadn’t received a flu shot.

From October 2022 to mid-January 2023, 1,122 cases of influenza and 147,960 cases of IACRS were reported. Public health specialists advise the population to observe preventive measures, including physical distancing and personal hygiene, as well as seeing a doctor when cold-like symptoms appear.
