Three men from the municipality of Chisinau and Ialoveni district were arrested by the police on suspicion that they appropriated goods in extremely large amounts. According to the police, the men worked as drivers-distributors of food products to school eateries. Together with eateries’ chiefs, these implemented a fraudulent scheme to appropriate food products, IPN reports.
The police monitored the actions of persons holding responsible posts at the State Public Food Enterprise, which manages the eateries, during about two months. It was established that the food products were supplied daily, in accordance with the agreed schedule, the goods being loaded at the Enterprise’s storehouse. At the end of the day, the merchandize that wasn’t taken to the school eateries was transferred into the vehicle of one of the suspects. A part of the food products were distributed between them, while the other goods were sold illegally.
This way, the men daily appropriated food products to the value of about 2,000-2,500 lei. A part of the earned money was given to the heads of canteens. Upon searches in the vehicle and at suspects’ homes, the police found food products to the value of over 50,000 lei. A number of illegalities were also identified at the eateries, including shortage of food products, keeping of expired foods products and non-observance of the sanitary-hygienic conditions.
