Three men arrested during armed robbery against Ialoveni family
Three men aged 19 were arrested this morning in a house in the town of Ialoveny as they were ill-treating the owner in an attempt to extort 5,000 euros and jewelry from him, Info-Prim Neo reports.
Ialoveni Police Commissar Oleg Pohila told a news conference that during the attack the owner's daughter and wife managed to get to the house's second floor and call a neighbor, who then alerted the police. The men were carrying two rifles, one of which was stolen in an earlier robbery.
According to the Commissar, the police arrived at the scene in 7 minutes and surrounded the house. During the arrest, several fires were shot and the investigation is to establish whether the suspects fired back. One man was caught in the house, the second in the yard and the third some 50 meters from the house.
Fortunately none of the family members was injured. No one was hurt during the arrest either.
The case will be investigated, but the police believe the house was picked randomly.
Besides rifles, the suspects also carried hoods and gloves. During the preliminary interrogation, the three men, who are from Cahul district, confessed to the offense and admitted committing several other robberies. One of the men is wanted by the Ungeni Police on suspicion of illegal border crossing. Another suspect was prosecuted for “perverse acts” but was cleared for being a minor at the time.
The crime of armed robbery is punishable by 15 to 20 years in jail.
