Three judges to be investigated for corruption

Three judges will be criminally investigated in cases involving passive corruption and influence peddling. The Superior Council of Magistracy (SCM) gave the go-ahead for the investigation based on the approaches made by Prosecutor General Ion Munteanu. The names of the judges have not been made public, IPN reports.

The prosecutor general's approaches were examined behind closed doors, during an extraordinary meeting convened on Wednesday.

The SCM allowed investigating, searching, bringing by force, arresting and detaining a judge involved in criminal cases started for passive corruption and influence peddling.

In the case of two other judges suspected of influence peddling and passive corruption, the prosecutor general's requests were partially accepted.

The Superior Council of Magistracy’s decisions can be appealed to the Supreme Court of Justice within 30 days.
