Three judges involved in “bribery case” remain under arrest

Two of the judges accused in the “bribery for judges case” will remain under house arrest for another 30 days, while another judge will be held at the remand prison of the National Anticorruption Center for 30 days. Such decisions were taken by the Buiucani branch of the Chisinau City Court on November 19, IPN reports.

Also today, the judicial assistant involved in this case had his remand detention extended for 30 days. He is held at Penitentiary No. 13. Two more judges had their remand detention extended for 20 days earlier.

According to the Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office, the Buiucani branch of the Chisinau City Court will take decisions concerning the other persons involved in this case the coming days.

Ten persons, among whom five judges, a prosecutor, a lawyer, a judicial assistant, a doctor and a private individual, were detained on October 23. The judges are suspected of asking for and receiving large sums of money for passing favorable judgments in a number of examined criminal cases. The lawyer and the prosecutor acted as intermediaries in the transfer of the money. The decisions were to be pronounced in favor of the doctor and the private individual.
