Three jaywalking schoolchildren injured on Chisinau roads
Three children, pupils at different schools in Chisinau, were injured in traffic accidents on Monday. Ion Roscovanu, Road Safety Inspector of the Chisinau Traffic Police, has told Info-Prim Neo that the children were injured while jaywalking.
The first accident occurred at around 14:00 on Dacia Blvd. A Daewoo-Nexia car, taxi 1422, struck a fourth-grade pupil at Elena Alistar Lyceum. The boy, who suffered strong mental stress, was transported to Valentin Ignatenco Hospital.
At about 17:00, a first grader girl attending Petru Movila School was hit by a Lada car on Ion Jumatii Str. Having suffered multiple traumas, the girl was admitted to the intensive care section of the same hospital.
Several minutes later, a sixth-grade student at the school no.53 was stricken by a Volkswagen-Golf on Alecu Russo Str. The boy suffered brain concussion.
The Traffic Police urge parents not to let their children unsupervised, especially when they have to cross a street. The traffic agents also appeal to drivers, who are asked to give priority to children, even if they cross the street recklessly or outside a designated crosswalk.
19 traffic accidents without victims were recorded on Monday. 105 drivers were fined for speeding and 19 pedestrians for jaywalking.
13 other tickets were issued for drunk-driving.
