Three intermediaries in ‘exam buying’ case get 30 days of preventive detention

Three intermediaries in the case of “buying” of grades for exams, annual theses and bachelor’s degree theses and  for production internships at the Academy of Economic Studies (ASEM) were given by 30 days of preventive detention. Two professors of the University were placed under house arrest for 30 says, while another teacher will be under judiciary control for 30 days. The decision was pronounced by the Buiucani branch of the Court of Chisinau on June 7, IPN reports.

Three more persons, who cooperate with the investigation bodies, were obliged not to leave the place of residence. The National Anticorruption Center said over 2 million lei in different currencies was seized as a result of searches at homes and offices of persons involved in this case. The origin of the money is to be found out.

Two days ago, professors of the ASEM and intermediaries were detained on suspicion that they were involved in an ‘exam business’. There were identified about 60 teachers and other public persons of the ASEM involved in this case. As a result, six professors and three intermediaries were arrested for 72 hours.

A number of criminal cases were started over passive and active corruption and influence peddling. These were merged into a common procedure.
