Three documentary films on human rights topics made by young debutants will be presented at “Eugene Ionesco” National Theatre in Chisinau on September 11, starting at 6:30 p.m. According to the organizers, Telefilm and the Council of Europe Office in Chisinau, each film tells a unique and captivating story, capturing the essence of the problems and challenges faced by contemporary society, IPN reports.
On the event’s Facebook page, it is noted that the films explore sensitive and current topics in the field of human rights and are the result of the effort and dedication of the authors, supported by Telefilm and the Council of Europe, but also by film director Irene Langemann.
The documentary “The Past that Doesn’t Pass” was made by Valeria Lozovan. The film explores the devastating impact of Stalinist deportations on a family in Moldova and also their echo today. The film illustrates the pain, resilience and hope that defined the lives of those affected by these tragic events.
The film “The Shadow of the Past” was produced by Stefan Arapu. The main character is Alexandru, a man who had been fighting against addiction to drugs, alcohol, smoking and gambling for 15 years. He emigrated, but understood that abroad his dependence intensified. He returned home at his mother’s insistence to rebuild his life. The film is a story about resilience, the fight against vices and finding of oneself.
The film “I Will Live”, made by Liliana Marrii, describes the story of Aliona Știrbu, a woman diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. Despite her illness, Aliona does not want to be a victim of her diagnosis and throughout the film she encourages her family.
The program of the event includes the screening of the three documentary films, followed by a Q&A session with the debutant directors. Admission is free of charge.
