Three hospitals receive new equipment bought with Japanese grant

Three national hospitals in the near future will be supplied with new medical machines that will be bought with funds provided by the Government of Japan. An agreement to this effect was signed in Chisinau by the Ambassador of Japan to Moldova Yoshihiro Katayama and Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Aureliu Ciocoi on December 22. Japan will offer Moldova grant assistance totaling about US$970,000, IPN reports.

In a press release, the Embassy of Japan said the non-reimbursable financial assistance will be provided for strengthening public medical institutions’ capacities to examine and treat patients with COVID-19. The grant project will be implemented during 12 months and will consist in the outfitting of three medical institutions of Chisinau with modern equipment.
 
The money will be used to install mobile radiographers at the “Toma Ciorbă” Clinical Infectious Diseases Hospital and at the “Emilian Coțaga” National Clinical Children’s Hospital. A computed tomography scanner will be bought for the “Valentin Ignatenco” Municipal Clinical Children’s Hospital.

During the last few years, Japan has financed a number of projects in Moldova’s health sector to improve medical services, to the value of US$57 million. In the framework of the “Kusanone” Program, there were implemented another 43 projects in healthcare, to the value of about US$3.7 million.
