Three districts in Moldova put on COVID-19 red alert

The districts of Cahul, Vulcănești and Edineț were put on COVID-19 red alert, Minister of Health Ala Nemerenco posted on Facebook, being quoted by IPN.

The minister said the number of new cases of COVID-19 rose by 16.9%, while of deaths associated with COVID-19 by 145.5% the past week. 98% of the persons hospitalized with serious forms of COVID-19 haven’t been vaccinated. 99% of the infected persons admitted to intensive care units haven’t been immunized. 100% of the mothers hospitalized with children who got COVID-19 haven’t been vaccinated. 90% of those who contracted the virus haven’t gotten a vaccine.

Ala Nemerenco called on the population to get vaccinated as immunization remains the only chance of preventing serious forms and deaths associated with COVID-19. She said the available vaccines are safe and of the best quality. She also urged the people to further obey the measures aimed at avoiding infection.

Svetlana Nicolăescu, secretary of state at the Ministry of Health, today told a news conference that the National Extraordinary Public Health Commission will have a meeting soon to consider introducing new restrictions to contain the spread of COVID-19.
