Three days dedicated to late Vasile Brescanu

The cultural center Odeon, in concert with the Union of Filmmakers of Moldova and Moldova-Film Studio, will be staging several events dedicated to actor and director Vasile Brescanu, who passed away earlier this year, Info-Prim Neo reports. According to the program of events, a commemorative soiree will start at Odeon at 5 P.M. on February 12. A film about Vasile Brescanu's picture “Forget about Return” and the movie itself in Russian, with Romanian subtitles, will be shown afterward. Brescanu's movies ”Secret Service Emissary”, “All Evidence against Him”, “The Wooden Cannon” in Romanian and 'The Favorite” in Russian will be screened on February 13 ad 14 at 1 P.M. and 5 P.M. Born on July 20, 1940 in Gotesti village of Cahul district, Vasile Brescanu graduated from the Acting Faculty of the Arts Institute in Chisinau and the Cinematography Institute in Moscow. Before becoming director, he worked as an actor at "Luceafarul" Theater in Chisinau. He made his debut as an actor in Emil Loteanu's “Expect us at Dawn”, in the part of Vlaicu. He also played roles in such movies as “Escaping from under Escort”, “The Tunnel”, “Wedding at the Palace”, “The Horse, Gun and Wife” and others. Among director Vasile Brescanu's best pictures are : “The Last Fort”, “The Favorite”, “Secret Service Emissary”, “Tony Wendis' Mistake”, ““Forget about Return” and others. At the National Film Festival held in Chisinau in 1980, Vasile Brescanu won the Best Production award for the movie “Secret Service Emissary”. In 1991, he was conferred the title of Master of Arts. Vasile Brescanu died from cancer on January 3, 2010.
