Three children suffer serious burns in fire in Rezina district

Three children, among whom a girl aged three, from Lipceni village of Rezina district suffered very serious burns. The villagers managed to evacuate them from a burning house and called an ambulance, which took them to the National Clinical Hospital “Emilian Cotaga” in Chisinau. Contacted by IPN, doctor Igor Calmatui said the three-year-old girl was admitted to the burns section, while her brother aged eight and her girl cousin aged 12 to the intensive care section.

According to the Civil Protection and Emergencies Service, the fire started in the afternoon of August 3. The firefighters struggled to contain the blaze during three hours. The house was destroyed almost completely. The cause of fire is not yet known. The children were alone in the house. The mother of the two younger children was at work, while their father is abroad. Villagers said this is a good family and the children were often left in the care of their grandparents, but it’s not known why they remained home alone that day.

Three children perished in fires in Moldova so far this year. Specialists warn the population to observe the anti-fire rules and not to leave the children without supervision. The grownups should remove all the sources of fire, including matches and lighters, from the house. The dangerous objects must be kept in places that are inaccessible to children, especially those of preschool age who do not realize the danger to which they expose themselves. The children must not be left unsupervised even for short periods, especially when there are such sources of danger as the stove and other domestic appliances in the room.

More information about how to protect the child is available on www.parinti.md and can be also found out by following the information campaigns centering on the prevention of accidents involving children carried out within the REPEMOL (Regionalization of the Pediatric Emergency and Intensive Care Service in Moldova) Project that is financed by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation and is implemented by the Center for Health Policies and Services.
