Three bridges over the Prut will be modernized

Three bridges over the Prut will be modernized following close cooperation between the governments of Moldova and Romania. At the suggestion of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Regional Development, the Cabinet approved the signing of bilateral Moldovan-Romanian agreements to build and rehabilitate crossborder bridges over the Prut, IPN reports.

The bridges that will be modernized are the road bridge between Leușeni (Republic of Moldova) and Albița (Romania), the bridge between Cahul (Republic of Moldova) and Oancea (Romania) and the bridge between Sculeni (Republic of Moldova) and Sculeni (Romania).

According to the authorities, the modernization of bridges will fluidize traffic between the two states, will facilitate trade on domestic and international markets and will offer benefits to improve connectivity between the European Union and Eastern Europe.

The works to repair the three crossborder bridges will be financed by the Government of Romania until the end of 2027 and are part of the national development strategy “European Moldova 2030”.

“The signing of the agreements will enable to build and modernize frontier bridges and this will have a positive impact on regional development and will stimulate economic growth in the country and in the neighboring regions by supporting citizens’ needs for mobility and by facilitating trade on internal and international markets,” said Minister of Infrastructure and Regional Development Lilia Dabija.
