Thousands of people remained without work in Transnistrian region

The Transnistrian region is experiencing an energy crisis, local media headlined. In a chain, the halt in gas supply generates major humanitarian problems, the Transnistrian leader Vadim Krasnoselsky said with concern, IPN reports.

“Respectively, thousands of people remained without a job. Meanwhile, it is cold in 150 kindergartens, in 130 schools and in as many budgetary institutions in the region," said the quoted source. The hospitals and polyclinics are facing heating problems.

According to local press reports, the locals remained without gas and heat on January 1 and the multitude of humanitarian problems in the middle of winter will increase.

There are now no power cuts in the Transnistrian region. The thermoelectric plant MGRES switched over to coal and, together with the Dubăsari station, can satisfy the electricity needs for 50 days, the Transnistrian administration announced.

On Wednesday, at the crisis cell’s first meeting this year, chaired by the local leader Vadim Krasnoselsky, it was announced that the gas reserves of the Transnistrian region total 13 million cubic meters. This amount is enough for the south of the region until January 20 and for the north (Rybnitsa and Camenca districts) until January 10, and 116,000 consumers in apartment buildings can use gas to prepare food, IPN reports.
