Thousands of people demand resignation of government in central square of Chisinau

Thousands of people came together in front of the Government Building last Sunday to protest against the current administration and to seek snap elections in a protest mounted by the civic movement “New Life”. The protesters had flags, caps and T-shirts with the words “A new life”, IPN reports.

Attending the protest, Șor Party MP Marina Tauber said that citizens from all over Moldova came to the protest. “The government led the country to an unprecedented crisis as we have never witnessed such times. If we are united and solitary, we will be able to change things for the better,” stated Marina Tauber, noting that the government now promotes its own interests, not people’s interests.

Marina Tauber said that a new movement was created, called “New Life”. This is coordinated by Ilan Șor, the leader of Șor Party, and will struggle for a better life for the citizens of the Republic of Moldova.

Șor Party MP Vadim Fotescu said the current rulers should pack up and leave. “I heard that Maia Sandu intends to go on vacation. She should better leave for good,” he stated.

For his part, Dinu Țurcanu, the head of Orhei district, noted that the civic movement “New Life” is not political and does not belong to a political party. He called on the people who do not agree with how the “current incompetent government” rules to join in.

“The government launched an extensive process of cleaning staff, replacing professionals from the system with people loyal to the ruling party, who show incompetence, ill will and lack of clear vision. Today, the whole state apparatus experiences a pressing shortage of specialists and the whole administrative system therefore is on the brink of collapse and no longer copes with the challenges. We today knock the first nail in the political coffin of the current government,” said Dinu Țurcanu.

The mayor of Orhei town Pavel Verejanu stated that the current government promised to eliminate all the schemes that were applied to steal money, but didn’t keep its word. “Where is the money? What schemes were destroyed? I’m sure that they now implement themselves these schemes. We daily see millions, grants coming from abroad to the Government and Parliament. Where is this money?” he asked.

At the end of the event, the protesters adopted a resolution saying that the protests will continue until the government resigns. According to the resolution, the role of the civic movement “New Life” is to unite all the opposition forces in the Republic of Moldova, which do not agree with what’s going on and are ready to put up resistance and to fight against the current government. The final goal of the movement is to make PAS renounce power and to obtain the holding of snap parliamentary elections.
