Thirty Moldovan athletes to compete in Summer World University Games

Almost 30 athletes from Moldova will contend in this year's Summer World University Games. The training of the national team, which will represent the country at the competition, was discussed at a meeting of state secretary for sports Sergiu Gurin with the president of the Moldovan Student Sports Federation Vyacheslav Mîrzac, IPN reports.

The Ministry of Education and Research said that the Moldovan athletes will compete in archery, athletics, judo, rowing, swimming, table tennis, taekwondo and beach volleyball. The coaches and members of the technical staff will also be present at the competition.

So far, the Republic of Moldova has won 27 medals at the Summer World University Games – four gold, four silver and 19 bronze medals.

At the previous edition held in China’s Chengdu, the Republic of Moldova clinched three medals – a silver, won by judoka Radu Izvoreanu, and two bronzes, in academic rowing, won by Alexandru Bulat and Alexandru Mașnic.

This year's Summer World University Games will take place from July 16 to 27 in the Rhine-Ruhr region of Germany.
