Thirty-five modular platforms for municipal waste disposal will be installed in Chisinau, in particular in the courtyards of apartment blocks whose waste disposal tubes will be sealed shut. Work will begin next week.
Vasile Efros, department head at the Directorate of Housing and Amenities DGLCA, told IPN that priority will be given to those locations where dumpsters have been removed and the garbage tossed through the tubes falls directly on the ground and needs be loaded manually into trucks. There are about 20 such blocks. The tubes will be sealed and waste disposal platforms will be set up instead.
The the municipal contract for the platforms was awarded in mid-September, which is quite late, says Vasile Efros. Difficult negotiations with apartment owners are to blame, because not everyone was ready to dispense with the close-at-hand, but often insalubrious tubes.
The waste platforms will be made of metal and covered with composite panels. “Recyclable waste” and “biodegradable waste” will be inscribed on the top of the frames as residents are being encouraged to sort their garbage.
According to Vasile Efros, the closure of waste tubes is a solution for eliminating rats and other pests.
The contract is worth 4.6 million lei. By the end of this year, DGLCA plans to install a total of 45 modular platforms for waste collection.
