Thirteen years of Stalinism: documents and photos

The Moldovans’ life during the Stalinist regime is presented in an exhibition of documents and photos gathered by former minister Valeriu Pasat, correspondent member of the Academy of Sciences of Moldova, Info-Prim Neo reports. The author said at the opening of the event that the idea came to him in Moldova’s early years of independence and that he finally managed to gather more documents and photos from those times. “If we say everything was bad, we’ll lie. If we say everything was good, we’ll lie. That period had its advantages and disadvantages. We chose the documents so that people drew their own conclusions. I don’t want them to be influenced by one opinion or another, but only by real facts. I don’t to impose my own opinion about those times”, said Valeriu Pasat. Those who attended the exhibition opening said that the Stalinist period meant more than just crimes and repressions and it changed the Moldovans’ DNA. Mihail Sleahtitchi, adviser to President Nicolae Timofti on education, said that such exhibitions are welcome because they can help to avoid the tragedies of the Stalinist period. Valeriu Pasat gathered the material from the archives of the Russian Federation, brought over 50 works, but because the lack of room, only 30 documents and photos were exhibited. As part of the exhibition, a film about the Stalinist times in Moldova will be broadcasted. The exhibition is organized by the Institute of History, State and Law in collaboration with the National Museum of Archaeology and History of Moldova, where it takes place, under the patronage of the Academy of Sciences.
