Thirteen children killed in road accidents this year
A child aged 11 was struck by a taxi in a crosswalk on Dacia Blvd. in Chisinau on Monday. Tudor Capatana, PR specialist of the Traffic Police Division, has told Info-Prim Neo that the minor was crossing the street legally. He suffered a concussion and many excoriations.
Since June 1, when the special operation “Care” was launched, there were reported 16 traffic accidents involving minors. Three children died and 16 were injured in them. Employees of the Traffic Police carried out a number of activities aimed at reducing the number of accidents involving children, including checks and information sessions, Tudor Capatana said.
A UN report shows about 830,000 children die yearly in road accidents worldwide. According to the Wolrd Health Organziation, the road accidents are a leading cause of death among persons aged between 5 and 29. Half of the 1.2 million victims recorded every year include pedestrians, cyclists and motorcyclists.
Thirteen children have died in car accidents in Moldova since the start of this year. Another 208 suffered injuries.
