Farmers from several districts protested in front of the Presidential Palace on Thursday. They called on the head of state to send to Parliament back for revision the law on the support measures provided to farmers after this year’s drought, IPN reports.
The document was adopted a week ago, on September 13. According to the farmers, the MPs did not take into account the proposals put forward by the Farmers’ Force Association
Sergiu Stefanco, a farmer from Căușeni district, a member of the Administration Board of the Farmers’ Force Association, said that the new law displeases the farmers because it is not functional and is valid for a limited period, while the criteria specified in the law for granting aid splits the farmers.
Sergiu Stefanco also said that the law was not consulted with farmers. “When the law was considered, the farmers submitted amendments, but these were not taken into account. There is a risk that the farmers will remain without fertilizers, seeds and pesticides next year and, respectively, they will no longer be able to work,” stated Stefanco.
The member of the Administration Board of the Farmers’ Force Association warned that, as long as Vladimir Bolea serves as Minister of Agriculture, the protest group will not participate in the meeting of the Economic Council, to which it was invited.
Thursday was the third day of farmers’ protest this week. On Tuesday and Wednesday, they took their agricultural machines out on a number of roads and demonstrated peacefully.
