Things in Moldova go in wrong direction - more than half of population says

Fifty-three percent of the respondents of the Public Opinion Barometer (POB), conducted by the Institute for Public Policies (IPP) and made public on Wednesday November 29, say that the things are going in a wrong direction in Moldova. POB shows an insignificant increase in the number of those that share this opinion, compared to the survey carried out in April when 52% of those interviewed said the same. At the same time, 35.7% of those surveyed think that the direction is good, against 33%, in April. About 36% consider that the economic situation in Moldova remains unchanged compared to that reported one year ago. This index is almost equal to that of the respondents that say it is better. At the same time, the share of the latter, of over 35%, is on a decrease by over 6% against April this year. Twenty-five percent of those interviewed qualified the economic situation as a worse one, their number being almost similar to that reported last year. 35% of those surveyed think the economic situation will remain in one year unchanged as well, while about 34.5% say it will be better, and over 20% think it will worsen. In April, only 13% of the respondents said that it will get worse. Over 47% of the respondents are not satisfied with the economic situation in Moldova, while the number of those content is about 17%. Every fifth respondent considers that the main action that should be taken to improve the social-economic situation is the development of the mechanism of putting the laws into effect. 17% say the role of the state in managing the economy has to be more active. Another part of those surveyed opted for developing the industrial enterprises, providing more facilities in the private sector etc. According to IPP director, Arcadie Barbarosie, the survey was carried out in the period from 5 to 17 November covering a sample of 1150 persons from 85 towns an villages, except for the Transnistrian region, the margin of error being of 2.9%. The survey was carried out by the Center of Community Sociology and Gender Research with the financial support of the Soros Foundation Moldova.
