A man who went to fish on ice died in several hours after he was brought to the Emergency Hospital with extreme hypothermia. He was 53 and was found floating on a lake in Rascani district of Chisinau.

The Hospital’s spokesman Petru Cravet has told IPN that the ambulance was called by passersby. The doctors who arrived at the scene needed some time to take the man out of the water. His body temperature was 24 degrees Celsius at a time when the limit for life is 28 degrees Celsius.

The efforts to resuscitate him failed. The man died in the reanimatology section several hours later.

Eight people, two of whom children, have been rescued from drowning when walking on ice this year so far.
