Thieves steal 150 boxes of kernel through window
Two young men from Ignatei, Rezina, are suspected of stealing about two tonnes of walnut kernel from a storehouse located outside Chisinau.
Adrian Jovmir, spokesman for the General Police Commissariat, has told Info-Prim Neo that the theft was committed on the night of February 13. The police arrested two suspects aged 22 and 24, who worked on a building site and lived in Chisinau on a temporary basis.
The kernel was taken out through the window. First, the thieves cut the iron bars of the window. As it was situated about four meters from the ground, they cut a tree and climbed it.
The kernel was packed in 150 boxes and ready for export. In order not to be noticed, the thieves covered the white boxes with wreaths that they took from a cemetery located opposite. The damage was assessed at 200,000 lei.
The owner of the storehouse told the police that a similar incident happened in January, when there were stolen about 70 boxes of kernel. He presumes the thieves may be the same.
If they are found guilty, the two young men will serve 7 to 12 years in jail.
