They do not have a home. Give a leu today for their tomorrow
Over 120,000 lei has been collected during three months after the launch of the “You Build the Future” campaign for reorganizing the boarding school in Cahul town. The campaign is carried out by the public organization EveryChild Moldova in cooperation with the Ministry of Social Protection, Family and Child.
The money was offered mainly by private individuals, in the boxes located in the Green Hills, Metro and Fourchette-M stores, and by Union Fenosa. Anatol Mamaliga, PR manager for EveryChild Moldova, has told Info-Prim Neo that the four companies expressed readiness to contribute to solving the problems of the children that remained without parental care.
Boxes remained in the Metro and Fourchette-M stores in Chisinau, Balti and Soroca. EveryChild is conducting talks with other shop chains. “We are also looking for possibilities of diversifying the methods of collecting funds and the campaign was extended until January 2010. We cordially thank all the kindhearted people that donated money and call on other companies to express willingness and trust in us,” Anatol Mamaliga said.
The boarding school in Cahul started to be reorganized in the summer of 2007. The school is transformed into a complex of social services aimed at creating an environment close to the family and the community for the development of the children. It will be a temporary placement center consisting of five family modules for children younger than 16, orphans or children that remained temporarily without parental care, and eight social apartments for orphan graduates of the school. The block of study is being transformed into placement center from the funds obtained by EveryChild from foreign donors.
EveryChild together with the administration of the school and the General Division of Education and Youth and the Social Assistance Division in Cahul take steps to integrate the children living in the breading school into other schools in the community and reintegrate them into the biological or extended families. From September 1, all the 103 children of the boarding school got to community schools.
EveryChild Moldova and the Ministry of Social Protection, Family and Child have earlier carried out another two fundraising campaigns “You Build the Future”. The money was used to buy a house for three children in Sarata Galbena village in Hancesti district, whose parents were killed in a merciless fire. There was also organized a summer camp for about 140 persons – parent assistants, social assistants, children from placement centers and biological children from five Moldovan settlements.
According to the Minister of Social Protection, Family and Child Galina Balmos, the reorganization of the boarding school in Cahul is one of the models that should be used to implement the governmental strategy for reorganizing the residential childcare system and halving the number of children in residential institutions until 2012. The fact that for the first time in Moldova the education process was separated from the social process in Cahul is an indicator that motivates and encourages the continuation of the reform.
The reform of the residential childcare system was launched in 2007 after the Government approved the strategy and the plan of action. The Ministry of Social Protection, Family and Child was entrusted with the implementation of the reform. The formulated policies are aimed at supporting the family and preventing the abandonment and institutionalization of children.
