The Ministry of the Interior has planned a series of measures in the coming weeks to enforce the latest coronavirus restrictions imposed by the Extraordinary Commission on Public Health. The plan has two phases: information and prevention, followed by fines for failure to comply.

“We have called for the mobilization of all staff and troops – the Police, the Carabinieri, the Border Police, and the Rescue Service – united in a single goal, that of preventing the spread of the omicron variant”, Interior Minister Ana Revenco told a press briefing.

Division heads will ensure uninterrupted activity by doubling patrol teams, especially where there is potential for congestion – markets, bus stops and public transport, shopping malls, entertainment venues and other public areas.

Preventive action will involve an “active dialogue” on the need to comply with the rules with the local authorities, managers of shopping malls, markets, restaurants, and other decision-makers, including service providers, said Revenco.

Another component of the prevention missions will be helping doctors. “At the local level, the sector inspectors will be instructed to help family doctors in monitoring those placed in self-isolation”, said the minister.

“If the anti-pandemic rules are not followed, we will have to impose fines,” she said.
