“There are products of a high quality that we can supply to education institutions,” director of the National Food Safety Agency Gheorghe Gaberi told a news conference held to present the results of the inspections carried out by the institution at schools and kindergartens following the rigging of biddings for delivering food products to these, IPN reports.

Gheorghe Gaberi said Moldova has food products of a high quality and this fact is confirmed by the partners of the states to which Moldovan products are delivered. The Agency recommends that the food products intended for education institutions should be supplied by producers that work in the same settlement or near the institutions, avoiding intermediaries.

Roman Vengher, head of the Chisinau Food Safety Division, said the inspections revealed that many storehouses are in need of repair and the ventilation and sewerage systems of some of these must be replaced.

The National Food Safety Agency proposed inspecting all the public eating places that are financed with budgetary funds, available at schools and kindergartens, carabineer troops, penitentiaries, hospitals and other institutions. A plan of action is needed to make sure that only products of a high quality are supplied to these institutions in the future.

Several weeks ago, it became known that the biddings to supply food products to schools and kindergartens in Chisinau were rigged and products of a poor quality were delivered to these institutions. A number of municipal functionaries were suspended from posts.
