In Moldova, there were over 176,000 people with disabilities in 2018, which represents nearly 7% of the total population of the country. Of them, over 10,000 are children with disabilities. The data are presented by the National Bureau of Statistics in the context of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPD), marked on December 3, IPN reports.
On average, there are 656 people with disabilities per 10,000 inhabitants, while for 10,000 children there are 180 children with disabilities. Almost every seventh person with disability suffers from some form of severe disability.
From the total number of pensioners with disabilities, people aged between 55-64 represent 43.1% and 30-54 years old represent 33.9%. In 96.4% of the cases, disability occurs due to common diseases and, in about 2% of cases, due to occupational disease and accidents at work.
In 2018, about 127,500 people with disabilities received disability pension, while 47,600 people received social allowances.
