There are no preconditions for raising price of bread, minister

Minister of Agriculture and Food Industry Ion Sula said there are no preconditions for increasing bread prices. In a news conference on February 26, the minister said he will soon have a meeting with bread makers, IPN reports.

The official noted that the wheat harvest last year was 1.1 million tonnes. Some 390,000 tonnes of wheat have been exported so far. The internal demand is satisfied with 350,000-370,000 tonnes. “It thus means that we have yet enough reserves,” stated Ion Sula.

The minister does not rule out that there was a chain reaction that made some of the producers raise the price of bread as bread prices do not depend only on the provision of grains. There are yet no reasons for panic and speculations.

Over two weeks ago, a producer from Orhei increased the price of bread by 10%. Ex-minister Vasile Bumacov said then that more bread makers were expected to increase prices.
