The head of the National Agency for Competition Protection Viorica Carare, in a news conference on February 17, said there are no objective reasons to increase the sugar prices at the moment. According to her, the prices should remain unchanged at least until the new harvest, Info-Prim Neo reports. Viorica Carare said such a stance was also expressed in a meeting of Government officials and the main sugar producers. The last time the price of sugar was increased about a month ago, by 0.6 lei to 12 lei/kg. Earlier this week, two important sugar producers announced they will halt the export of sugar in order to stabilize the situation on the home market and prevent speculations.
