The State Register of Units of Transport shows there were 944,300 motor vehicles with Moldovan license numbers in Moldova on January 1, 2018. Most of these were registered in the municipality of Chisinau– 285,000. In Balti, there are 44,400 units of transport, while in the Autonomous Territorial Unit of Gagauzia – 41,600, IPN reports.

Of the total number of units of transport, 588,000 are cars, while 181,800 are trucks. There are also 52,000 trailers, 16,800 semi-trailers, 41,600 tractors, almost 40,000 motorcycles and 20,900 buses.

According to the State Register of Vehicle Drivers, there were 972,500 drivers in Moldova on January 1, 2018. Of these, 217,700 were women.
